It would be great if the Google Map could display different coloured pins based on a listing's category or label.
At the moment, all listings appear to use the same colour pin. For directories with many different types of businesses, this makes it difficult for visitors to understand what they are looking at without clicking each individual pin.
For example:
Restaurants & Food – Red
Shops – Blue
Health & Fitness – Green
Home & Trades – Orange
Professional Services – Purple
Things to Do – Yellow
Ideally, the directory owner could assign a pin colour (or custom pin icon) to each category/label, with a small map legend explaining what each colour represents.
This would make the map much more useful as a discovery and navigation tool, particularly when using the Google Map as the homepage hero.
Bonus: It would be even better if clicking a category in the legend could show/hide those pins on the map.
